Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig of Hesse and by Rhine founded the Grand Ducal Hesse Porcelain Collection. From 1908, the museum was opened to the public. The collection displays courtly porcelain and faience art from the early 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century. The pieces from the Imperial Russian Porcelain Manufactory in St-Petersburg have a very special significance. These porcelain pieces could only be preserved through a donation.
