It is the oldest bridge in the Saarland, still preserved after the war, and it connects the districts of Alt-Saarbrücken and St. Johann - the "Old Bridge". However, no vehicles can cross the Saar here. It is reserved for pedestrians and cyclists. It was built as early as 1546, after Emperor Charles V was unable to cross the Saar due to a flood. In its history, the Old Bridge has already been destroyed twice. Originally, 14 arches spanned the Old Bridge over the river. Of these, 8 are still preserved today. The last construction measures in the 1960s meant that the Old Bridge had to give up some of its length to make way for the new city motorway. Our car parks Q-Park Staatstheater, Q-Park Am Schloss and Q-Park Rathaus in Saarbrücken are located about 500 metres from the bridge and parking spaces can be conveniently booked and reserved online in advance.
