Friedenskirche

A church with an eventful history in the south of Saarbrücken is the Friedenskirche. It was commissioned by Prince Wilhelm Heinrich in memory of his previously deceased mother and completed by Friedrich Joachim Stengel in 1751. The prince himself donated the building site, the clock, the bells and the wood for the construction. Until today, the Friedenskirche has been used for a wide variety of purposes. In 1793, the Friedenskirche became a "temple of virtue". At this time, the French Revolution spilled over into the Saarland. From 1820 to 1892, i.e. for 72 years, the Friedenskirche was used by the Ludwigsgymnasium.
