Johanneskirche

With its 74-metre high steeple, St. John's Church is the highest church in the entire Saarland. It was built in 1898 in the neo-Gothic style directly opposite the St. Johann town hall. Although Saarbrücken suffered immensely from the bombing raids of the Second World War, St. John's Church was one of the few buildings to survive these attacks almost without damage. Today, it no longer exclusively hosts Protestant services, but also discussion groups, rallies and events of a cultural nature. The Johanneskirche is also involved in the "City Kirche" project, which features concerts and performances that are held here at regular intervals. To create a reference to Saarbrücken's heyday during the industrial era, both the candle table, the ambo, the baptismal font and the altar of St. John's Church were made of rolled sheet metal.
