Around 1200 until the 18th century, the Old Palace in Stuttgart was a moated castle. At that time, Duke Christoph von Württemberg had the moated castle converted into a Renaissance palace. Today, the castle is a museum building and houses the Württemberg State Museum. The Junges Schloss children's museum is also located there, as is the castle church. The State Museum presents the history of the state from the Stone Age to the 19th century in the Kingdom of Württemberg. Around 280,000 people visit the museum every year and marvel at the collection of various handicrafts, coins, musical instruments, textiles and much more.
